This wood is from Southeast Asia and is popular in boat building, furniture and turned objects. It's normally some of the curliest wood around. The bird is of Tiger Maple and the mouthpiece is of Maple Burl and Mun ("moon") Ebony.
If you're looking for a flute with plenty of volume and lots of character, this little fellow can fill the bill. It measures around 19" long and has a voice that will fill a canyon. I'm not kidding. Of course, she can play softly with a smooth voice if you wish. A showpiece that you'll hate to leave at home when you head out on your favorite "flute hike". The finish is hard as nails and the wood is pretty tough, too, so you will probably be OK taking this little buddy along as a companion with a little care.
